Kotzebue (population 3,000) is located thirty miles above the Arctic Circle the regional center for the outlying coastal villages and communities along the Noatak, Kobuk and Selawik Rivers. The medical center incorporates 17 acute care beds, three delivery rooms, a laboratory, radiology, emergency treatment areas, and large outpatient areas for dental, medical care, and counseling.

At 82,000 square feet, the hospital is by far the largest building in Kotzebue. Our architects reduced the building's perceived scale through the use of gabled rooflines and sensitive application of exterior materials. The project won "Project of the Year" from the Project Management Institute.
